The Abdication of the Bees
Long in toil
half-domesticated
between Maine, Florida, California:
today blueberries, tomorrow oranges.
Maybe they grew angry
from the supplements
and displacement,
the field never ending
the hive never where it was.
They started to remove themselves
after five hundred years
unrepresented,
their queens artificially inseminated.
Maybe, gone feral, they left
in search of independent flowers.
